Facilities AT NIH

FACILITIES IN NORDJYLLANDS
SPORTS COLLEGE

Nordjyllands Idrætshøjskole has new and modern facilities and is centrally located in Brønderslev and North Jutland. The buildings are on one level, which creates a safe and manageable everyday life, and all rooms have their own bathroom and toilet.

Our location in the heart of Vendsyssel provides unique opportunities - we are only a 20-30 minute drive to both the North Sea and the East Coast, so nature and water are always close by and a natural part of life at the school.

And remember, you are always very welcome to visit us and experience the school on a tour.

THE NORTH BOX

State-of-the-art fitness center

We have a 1000 m² state-of-the-art fitness center here at the sports college.

In NORDBOXEN you will find a large cross training hall of 533 m² as well as strength, cardio and spinning rooms. The center is filled with some of the best machines and makes it easy to train with free weights. In the spinning room we have a 30 m² big screen, where we run spinning programs.

The center is our own, and you can of course use it as crazy as you want in your free time.

Wellness area

Our very own sauna and wilderness bath

We have our very own wellness area at the school, which includes a large sauna and outdoor spa. We naturally use these facilities in the subject Recovery and Wellbeing.

In this course, you can become a trained sauna master and book the facilities outside of class, so you can invite your college friends to sauna saunas – whenever you feel like it!

NIH Climbing Center

Climbing at a height of 6 – 21 meters

In our adventure area is the school's large wire course. A wire system that is built on 10 large masts, each with 2 stations on it. This means that there are 20 stations in our course that you have to try to get to. Between each station there is a challenge that you have to complete to get to the next station. It can be swinging on some ropes, walking on a tightrope, a cable car, cycling over a small bridge or other cool challenges - all between 6 - 21 meters high! There is also a 125-meter-long cable car down, so you can race down from the course.

Our climbing tower has now also become part of the course. You can climb up our 12-meter high wall, after which you can soar over to the wire course.

HUGE SWING

Jump off the climbing tower

The school has its own climbing tower, which has many different functions. One of the biggest and wildest is our giant swing. From the top of the tower, it is possible to jump into a so-called “big swing”.

At the top of the tower there is a hatch that you can stand on.

When the instructor gives the green light that your harness and rope are approved, you can take the plunge and have a huge swing ride from a height of 12 meters.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL COURTS

4 courts for beach handball and football

Behind the student wing is our large “sandbox”, where we have made 4 volleyball courts. These courts are of course used in the subject Beach Volleyball, but at least as much by the students in their free time. Electricity has been drawn to the court, which means that music often beats from the court during the summer. By the court there is a small “sun hill”, where the students who are not playing can relax and enjoy the sun and the game. The area around the courts is extremely appreciated in the summer months, when we often have some great afternoons and evenings here.

In addition to 4 beach volleyball courts, we also have goals to stand by the court. This way we can quickly arrange a game of real handball or soccer.

Base Camp

The school's outdoor Base Camp

In the school's own backyard, we are lucky to have a large adventure area. In the middle of the area is our high wire course and climbing tower.

But in addition to the great opportunities for climbing, the area is also equipped with several different outdoor options. Among other things, our large fire pit outside, with an outdoor kitchen. Here you can grill and cook during the summer. Along with the fire pits, we have two large shelters that can be used for sleeping outside.

These facilities are used in teaching our subject Nak & æd.

Disc golf course

18 hole challenge

The school established a new disc golf course in 2015, in connection with which we also established the subject Ultimate and disc golf. The course is one of the largest in North Jutland and with 9 holes distributed on the school grounds, there is ample opportunity to be challenged.

The disc golf course is primarily used in the subject, but the course is of course open to all students - which makes the course one of the many opportunities that students have in their free time.

Mountain bike track

Own MTB track on the school grounds

Over the past many years, we have developed our 1,6 km long MTB course. Every year, extra jumps, transitions or other things have been dug and built on the large course. This has meant that we have a very technical course with several jumps, drops and cool challenges, which the “MTB” discipline in particular benefits from.

Since we are very happy with the track and have many MTB bikes at our disposal, the track is used often – both in leisure time and in various disciplines.

Sports hall

The big playground

The sports hall is our large hall between the movement hall and the mirror hall. It functions as a real playground for the students with lockers and racks full of sports equipment, which they can freely borrow with their room key. Here they can play badminton, football, handball, volleyball and much more – and with subjects like 360° ball, there is always plenty of equipment available.

The hall is used both in leisure time and in teaching for, among other things, football, handball, volleyball, basic training, floorball and badminton, as well as for large joint lessons where the entire school gathers.

Common to all halls and rooms is that students have access to music systems and equipment.

Exercise room

High pulse and big speakers

The exercise room is a room with many possibilities. It is equipped with all kinds of gymnastics equipment and a vaulting pit, which gives you the opportunity to challenge yourself as a vaulting gymnast. The room is also used for team training, dance and yoga, where the mirrors form the framework for some cool subjects where the body is in focus.

Common to all halls and rooms is that students have access to music systems and equipment.

Hall of Mirrors

Everything from climbing to step

The Mirror Room is the school's "multipurpose room". The room is equipped with giant mirrors, making it ideal for dance and fitness classes. There is also an associated equipment room with step benches, weights, elastic bands, balance balls and much more, making the room ideal for both leisure and teaching.

In addition to the fitness options, the hall contains a large climbing wall for indoor sport climbing and an indoor “big swing” – a giant swing where you climb onto a plateau and jump out from a height of 6 meters.

Common to all halls and rooms is that students have access to music systems and equipment.

Brønderslev Golf Club – 2,3 km from the school

GOLF COURSES

Brønderslev golf club with up to 18 holes

The school uses the fantastic golf courses at Brønderslev Golf Club when teaching golf.

Here we can also benefit from the club's pro Morten Hedegaard.

Brønderslev Tennis Club — approximately 1,5 km from the school

Tennis courts

Brønderslev Tennis Club with four beautiful tennis courts

On the other side of the road is Brønderslev Tennis Club, which we naturally use for tennis. There are four beautiful tennis courts where students can let loose and enjoy the many fantastic things about playing tennis.

We also have a ball cannon at the school, so you can practice all kinds of shots!

Brønderslev Swimming Pool — approx. 1,6 km from the school

Brønderslev swimming pool

Lots of opportunities in the water

At NIH we offer the subject swimming/lifesaving, and the lessons take place in Brønderslev Swimming Hall, which is located approx. 1 km from the school. The swimming hall has a 50 m pool with 7 lanes and 1- and 3-meter diving boards. In addition, there is a jacuzzi, steam bath, sauna, infrared sauna, hot water pool and massage room that students can use. Visits are free during class time, and NIH students get half price during free time.

Padel Nord — about 1,5 km from the school

Padel courts

Close to school

Approximately 200 meters from the school is the city's state-of-the-art padel center (Padel Nord). Here there are six double courts and one single court. In addition, it is made with ten meters to the ceiling as prescribed by the rules and an internationally approved center court. Here we of course teach our subject Padel.

It is also possible to use the tennis club's two outdoor courts in your free time. These can be booked completely free of charge through our membership.

Lene's pottery workshop — approximately 450 km from the school

Ceramics workshop

Step into a creative universe

Would you like to work with clay? Our pottery lessons take place in our teacher's very own pottery workshop. Here, Lena invites you into her creative universe, where you will find everything your heart desires when it comes to working with clay.
In the workshop you will find a lot of exciting and creative ceramics, and we promise that you will quickly be inspired for a lot of fun projects.
Løkken beach — approx. 16 km from the school

North Sea

Jump in the waves

We are only 16 km from Løkken beach, where we have our own warehouse with surfing equipment, so you always have the opportunity to go out here in your free time and jump in the waves.
The waves of the North Sea are completely unique for surfing in Denmark and when the weather is milder we take out our SUP boards and challenge our balance in Stand-up paddle.
We also work with foil surfing – Pumpfoil, Prone foil and SUP foiling. This also takes place on the coast, but also at Aalborg Cable Park where we have some good floating docks available.

Theory rooms

5 modern rooms

There are 3 large theory rooms at the school. The rooms are equipped with TVs and the option to connect the computer to a large screen. The theory rooms are primarily used for our theoretical subjects, such as instructor training, nutrition and metabolism, and electives.

In addition to being used for teaching, students also have the opportunity to connect their computers to the big screen, making the rooms ideal for movie nights.

Lecture hall

“We will meet in the lecture hall”

The school's lecture hall is one of the most important rooms. When there are large joint information sessions, theoretical classes and assemblies, it always takes place in the lecture hall. This is also where we have the subject of singing and information, where we meet and sing from the High School Songbook. The lecture hall is equipped with various musical instruments that the students can practice on.

There is also a huge big screen, which is used when students have movie nights, watch international matches, the Comedy Gala or the like.

Student rooms

Large rooms with private toilet and bath!

Here at Nordjyllands Idrætshøjskole we have rooms for 2, 3 or 4 people. There is a shower and toilet in all rooms, which we promise you will appreciate. In rooms with more than 2 beds there is usually a loft with 1 or 2 beds respectively.

The rooms are located in our room wing, which is connected to the rest of the sports college. It is on one level, so when you step out of your door, you are directly in the middle of it all. In the room wing you will also find two kitchenettes, a laundry room, a living room and in the middle a lovely outdoor area. You are always welcome to visit us so you can see it all in reality.

The dining room

Food, food and more food

We use two of our common rooms in particular at the school. They are called “the red” and “the green”, named after the colors the rooms had in the 90s. The colors are gone today, but the names stick. The rooms are important for the school's students – this is where you sit down when you don't know what to do, and there is always someone to talk to. They are equipped with a football table, various card and board games, sofa groups and magazines.

The school's Sports Lounge is a great place to kick back and relax. The room is equipped with a TV, sofa, dart board, bar tables and the option to play on bean bags. This is where people gather in the afternoon and evening to relax and recharge after a hard day. The name Sports Lounge is a bit misleading – there is also space for stand-up comedy, films and Paradise Hotel.

Living rooms

Big communities and small moments

Our largest lounge is called “Green” and here all 130 students can gather for evening entertainment, board games, knitting, handball matches on the big screen and much more. In addition, we have several small lounges in the student wing and a sports lounge with a pool table and PlayStation.

This means that you can always be part of the larger community but also withdraw into smaller groups when you need to.

Kitchenettes

Room for the extra

There are two kitchenettes in the student wing, located centrally at each end. Here you will have space for your very own in the form of a drawer or some cupboard space in one of the kitchens.

So if you don't think the five daily meals provided by the kitchen are enough, you can prepare and enjoy your favorite snacks here.

Shared terrace

Outdoor life and community

Outside the dining room you will find a large shared terrace where you can enjoy the sun with your friends. When the weather is good, you can spend your free time between classes, in the afternoon or on the weekend here.
