Lifestyle & well-being at the sports college is an important part of everyday life at the Nordjyllands Idrætshøjskole. At NIH we offer a wide range of subjects for those who want to immerse themselves in something a little more calm or simply to take a short break from the many sports subjects. Here you can develop yourself within creativity, well-being, the police or whatever it may be.
Through the subjects, you will have the opportunity to find peace, strengthen your well-being and at the same time experience a community where you can recharge both physically and mentally.
Creative Art
Do you want to learn to paint like the great masters? In Creative Arts we explore the techniques that made painters like Van Gogh iconic. You will learn to use these techniques to create your own works and immerse yourself in your creative world.
IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE CREATIVE WORLD
We work with acrylic paint while exploring light, shadows and compositions. You will have the opportunity to imitate masterpieces, paint your own motifs and try your hand at still lifes and self-portraits. Along the way, you will learn how the choice of motifs can express both personality and contemporary times.
The subject is an invitation to experience the flow in the world of art. Here, time and place disappear as you experiment with colors and techniques and discover your own artistic style. Come and join us!
Can do it yourself – Want to do it yourself
In the subject Can You Do It Yourself - Will You Do It Yourself you will gain concrete skills and the courage to manage yourself. We take as our starting point practical challenges that you may encounter in everyday life.

- Basic skills in automotive and motor engineering, construction, electricity and safety, and economics
- To develop the desire and ability to do things yourself

Are you moving away from home soon? In the profession Can do it yourself - Want to do it yourself you will gain concrete skills and courage to manage yourself. We take as our starting point practical challenges that you may encounter in everyday life. Everything from managing finances to fixing small repairs and other practical things at home. In other words, we try to minimize the many panicked calls home to mom and dad when you move out;)
How we work:
We combine practical exercises, group assignments, discussions and problem-based learning to give you both knowledge and experience. During the course, your teacher will guide you as you tackle the everyday challenges that adult life throws at you.
Take control and become self-driven with the subject Can do it yourself – Will do it yourself.
Please note that not all electives are created and/or offered in all classes.
Ceramics
When you have ceramics as a subject at the college, it takes place at our local ceramist, Lena, who has a workshop a five-minute walk from the college.

ENJOY CREATIVITY WITH CERAMICS AT COLLEGE
The workshop creates the framework for the development of creative ideas. There is the opportunity to work with different techniques, so that you can create ceramic products as a memento of your time at the college. We will work with different types of clay, and you will be introduced to different clay colors and glazes, and learn to use and understand them.
In ceramics we will learn about different firing methods, which take place both outdoors and indoors. Here you will be involved in the entire process – from start to finish.
Around the table where we work, we create an atmosphere of play, coziness and lots of creativity. Along the way, you will also encounter challenges, as sometimes the clay does not want what you want. That is why we learn to let go and then creativity can flow.
There is room for everyone, both those who have tried working with clay or are completely new. We will address your individual level and Lena will guide you so that you find your very own creative style.
Massage course
You will receive an introduction to massage so that you can give a relaxing massage for the back and legs.

LEARN TO MASSAGE WITH A MASSAGE COURSE AT COLLEGE
The course is for those who want to learn how to massage, and/or if you want to find out if taking a higher education in the health professions is something for you.
At the college, you will be taught both theoretically and practically in massage in four lessons per week for a period. The working method in the practical lessons will typically be explanation/demonstration and then working together in pairs.
During the course you will both give and receive massage. We have adjustable massage tables that are used in the lessons. It is an important and natural part of the lessons that we work with working positions and the use of weight transfer when giving massages.
At the end of the course, there will be an opportunity to take both a theoretical and a practical test. The theoretical test reveals that you know the anatomy of the body and know the contraindications in relation to massage. The practical test takes place as a regular massage of a defined area.
Through the theoretical part (anatomy teaching), many students are confirmed that this is the path they want to take educationally.
Recovery & Wellbeing
Recovery is an important component in ensuring training progress and optimal performance.

WITH US YOU CAN BECOME A TRAINED STEWARD AT COLLEGE
Recovery is an important component in ensuring progress in training and optimal performance. There are many elements associated with optimal performance, including diet, sleep, active and passive training, and mental and psychological factors.
In the subject we will mainly work with the latter two factors – active and passive training as well as examples of psychological and mental well-being. You will learn through practical and theoretical teaching how to best get your body back on track. You will experience a whole new world of possibilities to pamper your body, so that afterwards you will have strengthened both your psyche and your physique.
In addition, you will also be trained as a sauna master. We have our own large outdoor sauna with space for 25 people. Here, both as a sauna master and a sauna participant, you will experience the healing effect of the sauna on body and soul. In addition to the sauna, we also have a wilderness bath, ice bath and outdoor showers in the school's outdoor wellness area.
In addition to getting warm in the sauna, we also pack the cars and take a trip to the stormy North Sea, where we throw ourselves into the blue waves. Here you will really find out what cold is, but you will undoubtedly also experience an energy boost and joy once you have thrown yourself into the 3 degree cold sea water.
The way forward – Study choice
The subject is voluntary and an option in addition to the other subjects you choose. Here you will receive help to make good choices for your life.

We know that you are starting with us because you want to do a lot of sports and maybe a little away from everyday life, but at the same time you can learn more about what content you want to fill your life with after college. We only have one life, and here we mean both private life and work life. There must be a balance, and they must be able to go hand in hand. Your work/study must fit into the life you want to live, and your life must make room for the work you are passionate about.
Therefore, in Vejen viider we will try to focus on what is important to you and what you dream about. Then we will look at what it takes to achieve those dreams – do you have the skills needed, or how can you get them. And not least, is it worth it or is there something else that is more important to you, so that you have new goals. What is your next best step on the path to the life you want?
Specifically, we work with values, competencies, doubts, how to make choices, CVs, applications for both jobs and studies, study clarification, budget and finances.
Yoga
You don't need to be able to stand on your head or reach your toes. Yoga is for everyone, and we explore it together in a safe and relaxed atmosphere.

JOIN THE WORLD OF YOGA
Maybe you have practiced yoga before, maybe you want a whole new dimension to your training and mental balance.
In yoga you can experience calm and contemplation – and at the same time experience challenging and strengthening your body in a whole new way. In modern training terms, you work physically with balance, flexibility and mobility, static strength and an excellent core workout.
Many of us move through life at a fast pace and place high demands on ourselves to perform constantly. Yoga can be a much-needed break and a grounding in your body in the present. A strong starting point for standing firm, even in headwinds.
We start with hatha yoga as a technical foundation and as a start that everyone can join in. Small meditations and relaxation are a common thread. And then we will explore different corners of the exciting world of yoga. It could be, for example: Sweaty vinyasa flows, completely calm yin yoga and restorative elements, yoga philosophy, yoga in silence, 108 sun salutations, chant and mantra, partner exercises and acroyoga, challenging arm balances, gong meditation...
Yoga can be a smart supplement to your other training. Or yoga can be a whole new world that opens up for you... See you!
