OUTDOOR
We offer a wide range of subjects for those who love wind in their hair and sweat on their forehead. For those who thrive when their pulse rises and the surroundings change from classroom to dunes, forest and water. If you love nature and are not afraid of a little mud and rain, then you have landed in the right place.
For us, outdoor is about experiences, community and challenging yourself. Whether you're into intense adventure racing or the quiet outdoors with hiking and campfire cooking, we have outdoor subjects that suit you.
Here you can try new disciplines, develop yourself and experience nature in new ways – regardless of your level. The most important thing is that you want to join in.

TEAMWORK, CHALLENGE AND ADVENTURE
It's teamwork, endurance and technical mastery. It's challenges from nature and not least from yourself. The feeling after completing an adventure race is hard to beat – and it has to be experienced!
Whether you are seasoned or completely green when it comes to adventure racing at the college, you will be challenged at NIH. The subject is offered in our fall class, which starts in August.
As an adventure racer, you must master a wide range of different and challenging sports. Therefore, you will also experience that you can always improve, so that you are stronger for the next race. Below you can read in depth about the many different disciplines, so that you know what you are getting into. We will also make suggestions for other subjects that you can choose, together with Adventurerace.
The examples of disciplines are just some of the many different challenges an Adventure Race can contain. If you really want to improve significantly as an adventure racer, our teachers recommend the following subjects:
- Adventure
- Mountain bike
- Power sports
- Mud & Muscles
- XTERRA
- Positive Psychology (Elective)
In an adventure race you never know what challenges await you. You may risk having to bike'n'run to the North Sea, solve challenges in the forests around the Nordjyllands Idrætshøjskole, canoe/kayak, rappel down from a silo, yes, there are virtually no limits. The subject is therefore tailored for those who love new challenges.
If you want to challenge yourself, your physique and psyche, then you should choose Adventure Race.
Adventure race is only offered in the spring.
MOUNTAIN BIKE
Most people probably know it. But there is a world of challenges. There are always new trails to explore and master, new areas with greater difficulty. We have many of these places close to the school, where you can embark on thrilling adventures. But we also have our own MTB track that runs all the way around the school. Here you will have plenty of time to improve your time and see if you can beat the school record. Of course, we provide bicycles and equipment.
CLIMBING
Could be many things. Here at NIH we have both an indoor climbing wall and an outdoor climbing tower. We also have a High-Wire system at a height of 6-21 meters filled with lots of fun challenges.
RAPELLATION
Here we have the opportunity to climb on the school grounds but also in various other places. The first time you lean back and feel the rush in your stomach is absolutely fantastic. Then you can almost hear the Mission Impossible soundtrack as you elegantly jump out and float down to the ground in a controlled manner.
TEAM TRAINING
Is a must when you do Adventure Racing. Without your team you won't get far, and without cooperation the challenges you face won't be solved quickly enough. Therefore, an adventure race requires physical and mental strength, patience, team spirit, cooperation and determination. We work with different exercises where you, in consultation with your team, must solve different tasks that can only be solved if you work together. Even if you think you are really good at collaboration, you will find that you can always strengthen your personal and other people's skills within this field.
ORIENTATION RACE
You often have to orient yourself using a map when you are on an adventure race. Therefore, it is important that you know how to navigate using a map and how to use a compass. These are absolutely essential elements that must be mastered. Otherwise, you risk quickly sending yourself and your team on a major detour. That is the last thing you need when resources are starting to run out.
TRACKING
Gives you the technique to run effortlessly through hilly terrain. Adventure races most often take place in challenging nature that is not always easy to navigate. It is therefore important that you have the technique and physique to move in this type of nature. Here we are so lucky that NIH is located in the middle of a lot of beautiful and challenging nature, where you can try your hand at cross-country running.
EXTREME
In the extreme subject we test your limits. We try to experience and work with extreme experiences – and that's cool...!
The course costs an extra DKK 2.000.
EXAMPLES OF CONTENT

- Wakeboard
ACTION AND ADRENALINE
As the adrenaline junkie that you are, you can't avoid the Extreme course. Here, with a state guarantee, you will have your need for action met in the form of a lot of extreme activities.
PAINTBALL
We have one of North Jutland's best paintball fields close to the school - and we take advantage of that. Paintball is relatively simple. It's about shooting the others and avoiding being shot yourself - simple? Just wait for the adrenaline, and the fear will come crawling. The fear of how much it hurts to be shot goes away as soon as you are hit the first time. But the adrenaline is in your body, even after we have finished the game. Included is: Overalls and mask, gun and compressed air, paintball balls and bruises. You must bring: "warrior" instinct and a little smile when you hear the scream of your high school friend who is hit.
GOKART
Go-karting is fast. You sit very close to the ground and whizz away at up to 70 km/h on a 1,1 km long track with tunnels and curves. The first few laps give you a feel for the cart and you get to know the track, so you will soon be pushing the cart faster and faster around the track. We are racing – so brake later, drive faster through the corner, get the perfect curve, make a cheeky overtake, watch out for who is coming from behind. In short, there is plenty to see once we get going.
RAPELLING (ONLY ON SPRING BREAK)
When you stand leaning over the edge, looking 35 m down and clutching the thin rope, it's okay to pee a little in your pants. In rappelling, you control the rope yourself when you go over the edge and about 35 m down. However, we have a backup rope tied to you, so you can be completely calm. You will be thoroughly introduced to the technique and can enjoy the trip when you are hanging freely in the air and your legs are no longer shaking. There is also the option to start with a trip where it is not quite so high before you take the trip all the way from the top.
SHOOTING
“What did you shoot it with?” is perhaps a little more extreme than what you're going to experience. But nevertheless, we go all American and take a trip to the shooting range. Here we try either rifle or clay pigeon shooting.
WAKEBOARDING
Wakeboarding can be described as snowboarding on water, where you are pulled around a track. Most people need a few tries before they cruise stylishly across the water, and maybe you'll get the courage to try one of the jump boxes. We'll go to Aalborg Cable Park and have plenty of time to try wakeboarding.
PARACHUTE
It's an adrenaline rush without actually jumping out of a plane. First the noise when the door opens, and in the seconds that follow you float towards the ground in almost silent mode. Adrenaline pumps through your body, and your heart races.
The price for a skydive is DKK 2.100.

GET THE WILDEST RUSH IN YOUR STOMACH
With a skydive, we guarantee that we will push you to your limits. And then you will automatically become a member of the exclusive club of people who have taken off more times by plane than they have landed.
There are options for both staticline solo jumps, where you jump alone and the screen is pulled automatically, and tandem jumps, where you and an instructor have a free fall of 30-60 seconds.
Everything takes place in collaboration with the best instructors, who do everything to give you an experience of a lifetime. They help create a safe and serious environment, where safety is at its absolute peak. You receive the theoretical instruction at the school together with your college friends. On the day of the jump, there is practical instruction before we jump into the plane, and the instructors guide you out of the plane.
The jump itself takes place, depending on weather and wind, usually on a weekend or afternoon, where you should expect to be on standby at the right time.
POSSIBILITY FOR MULTIPLE JUMPS
One of the advantages of skydiving with NIH is that you also become a member of the Danish Parachuting Union. This means that you can subsequently take more jumps at a member price and possibly take even more challenging jumps from greater heights, be trained in freefall jumping or participate in events at the skydiving club.
The Outdoors
Nordjyllands Idrætshøjskole is located right in the middle of the fantastic nature of North Jutland. For example, the North Sea is only 16 km from the school. We try to incorporate all this beautiful nature into the subject as much as possible.

Get all the way around with outdoor activities at college
Nordjyllands Idrætshøjskole has some good facilities for the subject. We have our own adventure area with a large campfire site, shelters, lovely nature and, not least, our own large climbing and high-wire center.
In the subject we get a lot of exposure. You will of course have the opportunity to use our fantastic climbing center and have the wind in your hair when you stand 22 meters high and look out over North Jutland. Since the region is known for its fresh westerly wind, we will of course take advantage of it to build kites and learn to control our slightly larger kites. In addition, we will also slow down the pace and immerse ourselves in the more peaceful outdoor life with hikes in the forest, campfires and primitive cooking. The subject will of course also include an overnight trip, where we sail away in our canoes and spend the night at a shelter. There, it will be all about cooking and having fun.
MUD & MUSCLES
It's cold and wet. There's maybe a meter of snow, and the thermometer shows minus 8 degrees. The lake is frozen. But that's cool – because in the profession Mud & Muscles We go full throttle in the harsh North Jutland nature during the coldest months of the year.

The subject is about using nature as a training tool in the months when we usually stay indoors. We will challenge your inner Viking through games, competitions, teamwork, Spartan races and quirky kicks. In Mudder & Muskler at Nordjyllands Idrætshøjskole we go a step further. Where others would say; "No thanks". We say; "Just give me another challenge!".
You will experience that mud splashes, water, cold and relentless conditions become prerequisites for great experiences. If you are up for playing human tank in an ever-changing and fun terrain, then the Mud & Muscles course is just the thing for you.
NAK & ADE
Get a little closer to nature in our Nak & Æd course. Here you will try your hand at preparing and cooking outdoor food over a campfire.
FOR THE OUTDOOR PEOPLE
We work with the raw materials from scratch. This means that we, for example, get a whole deer. We process this according to all the rules of the art. It must be skinned and carved. Then it must be cured, and when it is ready for cooking, you and the other students are allowed to choose which dishes you want to prepare.
You will also gain an understanding of how hunters work, why we hunt and how we treat the animals with respect afterwards.
So do you want to be in nature and eat delicious food? Do you want to cook over an open fire? Then the nak og åd course is just the thing.

At Nordjyllands Idrætshøjskole, we have some fantastic outdoor facilities that enable a wide range of physically tough challenges. In other words, you will not get bored in the Powersport subject.

COMMUNITY IN AN INDIVIDUAL SPORT
Triathlon is by no means a new invention. The sport has been around since the 70s, but has evolved a lot since then. The distances have been extended, the equipment has been streamlined, and new versions of the sport, such as XTERRA, have seen the light of day.
If you choose the subject Triathlon at Nordjyllands Idrætshøjskole, you will be challenged both mentally and physically, regardless of your level. Anders, who teaches the subject, has been a practicing triathlete for many years and knows the sport inside out. He structures the training so that you can develop individually, but just as importantly, it is about showing community in a sport where you are often alone against others.
At Nordjyllands Idrætshøjskole, there are good opportunities to strengthen your tri-skills if you put together your schedule based on Anders' recommendations:
DIET & NUTRITION
If you combine these subjects in the schedule, you will get a composition of subjects that strengthens your competences within triathlon on many different parameters. You will understand why recovery and the food you put in your mouth matter so incredibly much. You will also strengthen your body so that it is physically better equipped for the challenges of triathlon.
